Tambis Tree

Tambis (Syzygium aqueum (Burm.f.) Alston)

Tambis is an evergreen tree, with a small crown that usually grows 6 to 10 meters tall.

They can be found in fairly moist tropical lowlands and is usually cultivated for its wood and edible fruit.

Often confused with the Macopa, the fruit is a yellow or red bell-shaped berry, with crunchy, crisp, and juicy flesh, which is commonly eaten raw but can also be made into syrup.

The wood is used for making musical instruments, tool handles, furniture components, ship-building, heavy carpentry, and flooring.
